Federal government grants are very different from government grants. The federal government grants are very difficult to get and they are not free like government grants. The federal government grants are only for projects that are in the interest of public. After completion of the project there is exact benefit of the public. Hence mostly the scientific research projects or the charitable function projects are the ones who are awards with federal government grants. These grants are not given for educations purpose or for home improvement purpose.

The agency that awards these federal government grants only do monitoring and technical assistance and they are not much involved in the project beyond these two things. If any more involvement is there then there should be some legal contract between the two parties. These grants are not at all like free government grants. The number of people applying for getting federal government grants is less compared to those people who apply for getting free government grants.

Different types of federal government grants -

As there are different types of government grants programs, here also there are several different types based on the purpose of applying for getting the federal grants. Those projects that include research or scientific inquiry can last up to three years. The formula grants are also called as block grants and these are the funding resulting form provision of law. The categorical grants are only awarded to projects that have natural goals like providing financial help to the field of education. Government grant programs don’t generally have any such natural goals.

There are about 21 categories of the federal grants, which are Business and Commerce, Disaster prevention and relief, agriculture, energy, environment, labor and training, education and employment, nutrition and health, Information and statistics, law, justice, legal services, development, natural resources, social services, regional development, science and technology, humanities, housing, recovery act, transportation and income security.

Mainly government organizations, public and private educational institutions, non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, small businesses and individuals are the ones who can apply for getting the federal government grants. It is very difficult to get approval for federal government grants and hence many people try to apply for business government grants. Even thought many have failed to receive the federal government grants, there are still many who have got these federal government grants. Hence if you think whatever project you are suggesting it is in natural interest then go ahead and apply for the federal government grants.
